The body is a finely tuned machine. A-mazing. Some call it a temple.
Whatever you call yours, it deserves your attention.
Your body is constantly “talking” to you, giving you cues.
There are cues that most of us know – like hunger, thirst or having to go to the bathroom.
But what about the more subtle cues?
Like your response to…
anger.
fear.
stress.
pain.
When something’s just not right.
Or when it totally is right, and you know it – you simply can’t explain why.
And what about the cues that we push down or away, or use something outside of ourselves to remedy?
Like….
being tired. How often do you really rest, rather than push through or grab some caffeine?
having a headache. Again, rest? Water? Some quiet? or advil?
not being able to sleep. Journaling or naming what’s bothering you to get it out, or sleeping pills?
The more that you pay attention, the more that you learn and know about your body, the more that you trust it – the more it will guide you.
An easy way to begin: Create awareness and connect to your body. Begin to notice. Pay attention – what does real hunger feel like? if you have a headache (or any pain), can you trace it back to a cause? or make an adjustment so that the pain goes away? when you’re thirsty, do you let it go? or get a drink right away? what happens if you let it go? what happens if you wait to eat? when do you notice yourself getting sick? again, can you trace it to something?
The worst thing you can do is ignore your body, move through pain and respond with “I’m fine”, when you’re really not. Learn to listen to the little things. Your body will lead you, if you let it.
Be an explorer & experiment.
Listen in.
The clues & cues are all around.
