For about a year now, I’ve been supporting my kids’ math learning. Some of it fun, a lot of it not (it’s sooooo much easier to teach non-family members).
When solving problems, my first question has been: What do you know?Beyond anything else – what’s the question, and what do you know? From there, we can begin to solve just about any problem – but first, we have to know what we’re working with.
These days, I find myself asking that question about more than math problems.
What do you know?
When I’m stuck on what to do next.
Talking to a friend about the struggles of day to day right now (you know, that pandemic thing).
Getting the bottom of my right hip pain.
Talking to my husband about issues at work.
What do you know?
Sometimes the answers are fact based….other times, it’s all feeling. Occasionally it’s a combination of the two. The answers may come immediately. Other times it takes a few days and they may pop up out of no where.
What do you know?
The next time you’re facing a dilemma, stop.
Take a deep breath, and tune in to what you already know.
Now, move from that space.
